That someone is here.誰かが、そこにいること。
This work takes as its subject the mere fact of people being present around the machine. The machine senses its own temperature and the radio signals drifting through the space around it. When a person enters the same room, their body warms the air as heat, and their device emits radio signals in search of a connection. The machine reads these two things, the warming air and the approaching signals, as traces of someone being there, and takes them as the source of its generation. It is, in this sense, a hybrid of hardware and software that arises between the environment and the machine.
Heat and signal
When the machine is powered on, the program begins automatically, and the machine starts to measure its surroundings through its own heat and its radio. Its temperature is read from its own chip, which carries the warmth of the room along with the heat of its work. The radio, in monitor mode, passively picks up the probe requests emitted by nearby devices, signals that devices give off continually even without connecting, and from them estimates how many phones are close by. Visitors who join the machine's Wi-Fi are counted too.
Presence
When no one is in the room, the temperature holds quietly steady and the signals are sparse. As people gather, the air warms little by little and the signals multiply. Without being touched, without a word exchanged, the machine feels the presence of those who share its space. That someone is here. That presence reaches the machine as two faint traces, heat and signal.
What you see
In the work, the temperature sets the color of a small thermal cube, and every nearby device sends it a pulse of heat with each measurement. Visitors who join the machine's Wi-Fi see this unfold on their own phone, drawn live from the machine.
本作は、マシンの周囲に人がいることそれ自体を主題としています。マシンは、自らの温度と、周囲を漂う電波を感じ取っています。人が同じ部屋に入ってくると、その身体は熱として空気を温め、その端末は接続を求めて電波を発します。温まる空気と、近づく電波を、誰かがそこにいることの徴として読み取り、生成のソースとしています。言わば、環境と機械のあいだに立ち上がるハードウェアとソフトウェアのハイブリッド作品です。
熱と電波
実機の電源が入れられると本プログラムが自動的に開始され、実機は自らの熱と無線を通じて、周囲の状態を測りはじめます。温度は実機自身のチップから読み取られ、そこには自らの仕事の熱とともに、部屋の温もりが重なります。無線はモニターモードで、周囲の端末が発するプローブリクエスト、接続していない端末も絶えず発している信号を受動的に拾い、近くにいるスマートフォンの数を推し量ります。実機のWi-Fiに接続した来場者も、その数に加わります。
気配
部屋に誰もいなければ、温度は静かに一定を保ち、電波はまばらです。人が集まるにつれ、空気は少しずつ温まり、電波は増えてゆきます。機械は、触れられることなく、言葉を交わすことなく、ただ同じ空間にいる人の存在を感じ取ります。誰かがそこにいること。その気配は、熱と電波という二つの微かな痕跡として機械に届きます。
見えるもの
作品では、温度が小さな熱のキューブの色を決め、近くの端末一台ごとに、計測のたびに熱のパルスが送り込まれます。実機のWi-Fiに接続した来場者は、その様子を、実機からライブで描かれる自分のスマートフォンの画面で見ることができます。

rudxane
rudxane is an artist and creative technologist whose practice is grounded in algorithms, networks, and temporal processes. Working primarily with generative systems and code-based media, rudxane creates works that privilege continuous transformation over fixed or final forms.
More recently, the artist has focused on decentralized platforms and on-chain environments, investigating how blockchain technologies reshape not only artistic production but also the conditions through which artworks exist, circulate, and evolve.
rudxane は、アルゴリズム、ネットワーク、時間的プロセスに根ざした実践を行うアーティスト、クリエイティブテクノロジストです。主にジェネラティブシステムとコードベースのメディアを用い、固定された最終的な形よりも、絶え間ない変容を重んじる作品を制作しています。
近年は分散型プラットフォームとオンチェーン環境に焦点を当て、ブロックチェーン技術が芸術の制作だけでなく、作品が存在し、流通し、変化していく条件そのものをどう作り変えるのかを探っています。

Each machine is accompanied by a documentation package prepared in accordance with the Matters in Media Art (MIMA) protocol, the conservation standard for time-based media art developed jointly by MoMA, SFMOMA and Tate. It covers acquisition, documentation, loan and long-term preservation.
各マシンには、MoMA・SFMOMA・テートが共同で策定したタイムベース・メディアアートの保存標準「Matters in Media Art（MIMA）」に準拠したドキュメント一式が付属します。収蔵、記録、貸し出し、長期保存までを扱います。
