Hatch/et

exonemo・2026

"Hatch/et" is an artwork in which a computer attached to the bottom of the piece continuously launches random brute-force attacks on a set passcode, and the moment it is decrypted, the work destroys itself with an axe. A passcode with a different number of digits is set for each object, resulting in varying levels of difficulty. Some are solved in under a minute on average, while others require an average of 150,000 years. Mass-produced computers, created as replaceable entities, are elevated to irreplaceable existences (unique destroyed objects) the moment they encounter their one-and-only code. It is a work where the acquisition and disappearance of individuality overlap at the exact same moment.
