Subject / Object / Object

We are pleased to present "Subject / Object / Object", the exhibition by Takeyuki Hakozaki / Hiroyuki Arikawa(WORKSHOP™︎).
Statement
This work is structured around the relational dynamics between acrylic discs and turntables. The discs lack both center holes and grooves, leaving the stylus without a predetermined trajectory. As it glides, leaps, and grinds across the surface, the stylus generates both sound and trace. In this configuration, the object itself becomes the agent of sonic determination, inverting the conventional subject-object relation between disc and turntable. Sound emerges autonomously through the movement and friction of material bodies.
The fluorescent light objects, positioned in opposition to the sonic apparatus, engage in intermittent flickering. While each turntable operates on an independent sequence, its rotational behavior is modulated by the interference of the light’s temporal rhythm, producing new patterns of motion. This asynchronous configuration gives rise to a stratified temporality within the space—one that does not convey predetermined meaning, but instead manifests through différance and decentered emergence.
Within this field, all entities coexist on equal ontological footing. Each maintains its own rhythm and behavior, without fully connecting to the others. Objects resist reduction to perception or function, always withholding something of themselves, and appearing only partially, never in full disclosure.
Artists
箱崎健志 Takeyuki Hakozaki
Musician and Visual Artist.
As a musician, he creates music pieces and three-dimensional sound works that structurally develop and expand from minimal music as his foundation. He has presented his works both domestically and internationally. As a visual artist, he presents artworks and installations both domestically and internationally that employ a method of stripping artificial objects of their original functions and revealing unknown possibilities through contact between multiple objects whose relationships have been deconstructed. His collaboration with Kodo, "MATSURI with KODO," was selected as a finalist in the "USE OF ORIGINAL MUSIC" category at SPIKES ASIA.有川裕之 Hiroyuki Arikawa(WORKSHOP™︎)
